Connect Claude (Filmit MCP)

Filmit MCP lets Claude work in Premiere Pro, After Effects and DaVinci Resolve Studio, in the project you have open. You ask for an edit in plain words, and Claude uses Filmit’s actions to do it: cutting a section out, adding markers or transitions, building a lower third, checking a frame. It comes with a free Filmit account.

You need:

Premiere Pro or After Effects with the Filmit Studio panel, or DaVinci Resolve Studio with Filmit Studio for Resolve. Don’t have it yet? Download Filmit Studio: it installs them for you. (Resolve’s free version can’t run workflow integrations.)
A Filmit account (free, or your current one)
Claude, on the web, the desktop app, or your phone

Step 1: Turn on Filmit MCP

Open Filmit Studio: in Premiere Pro or After Effects, Window → Extensions → Filmit Studio. In DaVinci Resolve, Workspace → Workflow Integrations → Filmit Studio.
Go to the MCP tab.
Flip the switch on. The status line says it is ready.

Do this in each app you want Claude to work in. Filmit MCP starts with the app from then on, until you switch it off.

Step 2: Add the connector in Claude

The quickest way is from the panel: in the MCP tab, click Connect next to Claude. The panel copies the connector address, shows you the steps, and opens Claude for you.

To do it by hand:

In Claude, open Settings → Connectors.
Click Add custom connector.
Name it Filmit and paste the address above.
Click Add, then Connect.

Claude opens the Filmit sign-in page. Sign in with your Filmit email and password, or with Google. When you are done, Claude shows Filmit as connected, and the MCP tab in the panel says Claude connected.

Step 4: Ask for an edit

Start a new chat in Claude and make sure Filmit is turned on in the tools menu. Then ask, for example:

“What’s in my Premiere project?”
“Cut out everything between 0:12 and 0:18 and close the gap.”
“Put a 1 second cross dissolve on every cut on V1.”
“Build a lower third for Jane Doe, Director, that slides in from the left.”
In Resolve: “Make a vertical 1080x1920 copy of this timeline and zoom every clip to fill it.”

Claude reads your sequence, timeline or comp first, makes the changes, and can render a frame to check its work. In Premiere Pro and After Effects every change is a normal step you can undo. In Resolve, cutting a section out builds a new timeline and leaves your original as it was.

In DaVinci Resolve

Keep the Filmit Studio window open while Claude works. Closing it ends the connection.
Resolve doesn’t let add-ons split clips in place, apply effects or transitions, set keyframes or change clip volume. Claude works around what it can (a cut becomes a new timeline) and tells you when something needs a click from you.
Titles arrive as a compound clip in a Filmit Titles bin. Open it in Resolve to restyle the Text+.

Choose what Claude can do on its own

In Claude’s settings for the Filmit connector, each action is marked as read-only or as one that changes your project. A good setup is Always allow for read-only actions and Ask for the rest, so Claude checks with you before it edits.

Turn it off

Flip the switch in the MCP tab. Claude can no longer reach that app.
To remove Filmit from Claude completely, open Settings → Connectors in Claude and disconnect Filmit.

Troubleshooting

Claude says your editor is not connected. Open Filmit Studio in that app and make sure the MCP switch is on. Keep the app (and in Resolve, the Filmit Studio window) open while you work with Claude.

The panel does not have an MCP tab. Update Filmit Studio so it installs the latest panel, then restart your editor.

Sign-in did not finish. Go back to Claude and click Connect on the Filmit connector again.
