Recipes
Copy a prompt, change the details to fit your project, and send it to Claude with Filmit turned on. Each recipe says what Claude does, so you know what to expect and what to check.
You don’t need to use these words exactly. Claude works from what you mean.
Get your bearings
What’s in my Premiere project? List the sequences, then tell me what’s on the open one: how long it is, what’s on each track, and any markers.
Claude reads the project and the sequence and gives you a summary. Nothing changes. A good first message in any new chat.
Cut a section out
Make a copy of this sequence first. Then cut out everything between 1:12 and 1:20 on all tracks and close the gap.
Claude duplicates the sequence, removes that stretch from every track, pulls everything after it earlier, and reads the sequence back to confirm. Your original sequence is untouched.
Want the gap to stay? Ask it to “lift” the section instead.
Mark things for review
Add a red marker named “Review” at every cut longer than 5 seconds, and a green one at the start of every clip on V2.
Claude reads the clip timings, works out where the markers go, and adds them all in one step. Ask “delete all the Review markers” to clear them.
Transitions on every cut
Put a 12-frame cross dissolve on every cut on V1 and a dip to black at the very end.
Claude adds the dissolves to every cut on the track, then the dip at the tail. Name any transition the way it appears in your Effects panel.
Grade and animate a clip
On clip 3 on V1, apply Lumetri Color and warm it up a little. Then add a slow push-in from 100% to 110% over the whole clip, without touching any keyframes already on it.
Claude applies Lumetri Color, reads its settings, changes the ones it needs, and adds scale keyframes at the clip’s start and end. If the clip already has animation, Claude adds to it instead of replacing it. Ask for a frame at the end to see the result.
Clip numbers count from the left on each track. You can also select clips in the timeline and say “the selected clips”.
Build a lower third from a reference
Drop an image of a lower third you like into the chat, then:
Build a lower third in this style that says “Jane Doe, Director”. Animate it in over half a second from the left and show me a frame when it’s done.
In After Effects, Claude studies the image, builds the text, shapes and colours to match, animates them in, renders a frame to compare, and fixes what’s off.
Want it traced more closely? Save the image on your computer and give Claude the file’s full path: it brings the image into the comp as a dimmed guide layer and builds on top of it. Delete the guide layer when you’re happy.
A vertical version in Resolve
Make a vertical 1080x1920 copy of this timeline and zoom every clip to fill the frame.
Claude duplicates the timeline at the new size and sets the zoom on each clip so it fills the frame. Your original timeline stays as it was. Ask for a frame at a few points to check the framing.
Tidy the project
Move every clip whose name starts with INT into a bin called “Interviews”, then make a sequence from them in name order.
Claude reads the project, moves the clips into the bin (nothing is deleted), and builds a new sequence from them. To bring new files in, give Claude their full paths, for example D:\Shoot\Day 1\A001.mov.
Watch it: Organize a project.
Captions from a file
Import C:\Users\me\Desktop\captions.srt as captions on this sequence, starting at 0:00.
Claude adds a new caption track with the captions from the file. Styling them is done in Premiere.
Check your work
Show me the frame at 0:30 and tell me if anything looks off.
Claude renders the frame, looks at it, and describes what it sees. Good after any change to titles, framing or effects.
Watch a full check: Run a QC pass before delivery.
Tips for your own prompts
- Say where: track and clip number, a time (“at 0:42”), or “the selected clips”.
- Say what to keep safe: “make a copy first”, “don’t touch the music”.
- Ask Claude to check: “show me a frame when you’re done”.
- Big jobs work best in steps you can review. See Getting good results.
