How to Add a Vignette in Premiere Pro

To add a vignette in Premiere Pro, open the Lumetri Color panel (Window > Lumetri Color), expand the Vignette section, and drag the Amount slider left for a dark, cinematic edge or right for a bright, snowy glow. It's built in — no plugins or effects to install. Here's how to apply and shape it.

What a vignette does

A vignette darkens (or lightens) the edges of your frame, drawing the viewer's eye toward the center. A subtle dark vignette adds mood and focus; a bright one creates a dreamy, wintery halo. Used lightly, it's one of the fastest ways to make footage feel more intentional and cinematic.

How to add a vignette in Premiere Pro

Open the Lumetri Color panel

Go to Window > Lumetri Color, then select your clip in the timeline so the controls apply to it.

Expand the Vignette section

Scroll to the bottom of the Lumetri Color panel and click to expand Vignette. You'll see Amount, Midpoint, Roundness, and Feather.

Apply a dark vignette

Drag the Amount slider to the left. The further you go, the darker the corners — you'll see the fade appear instantly around the frame.

Shaping the vignette

Once Amount is set, refine the shape with the three controls below it:

  • Midpoint — how far in from the edges the effect reaches.
  • Roundness — from a rectangular falloff to a soft circle.
  • Feather — how soft the transition is. Higher feather keeps it natural and unnoticeable.

Create a white or "snowy" vignette

For a brighter, stylized look, drag the Amount slider to the right instead. This lightens the edges into a glow or snowy halo — great for dream sequences, holiday themes, or soft, airy edits.

Pro tip: keep the Amount subtle and raise the Feather. An obvious vignette reads as amateur; a barely-there one just makes the shot feel polished.

Frequently asked questions

In the Lumetri Color panel (Window, Lumetri Color), at the bottom. Expand the Vignette section to reveal the controls.

No. The Vignette control is built into Lumetri Color in every recent version of Premiere Pro.

Drag the Vignette Amount slider to the right instead of left to brighten the edges into a glow or snowy halo.

Keep the Amount subtle and increase the Feather so the falloff is gradual rather than a hard, obvious ring.
