Shorts and reels
Loud, word-by-word captions sized for a tall frame, kept inside the centre column when you cut vertical from a wide shot.
Animated captions that stay editable. Captions listens to your sequence on your own machine, times every word to the voice, and places one caption clip per line on a free track in Premiere Pro, or a Captions comp in After Effects. Pick a style, watch it play on your own words, then create.
Captions is free to start. Five styles are free to use, no card needed. The full library of 111 styles, Review, and Bulk come with Filmit Studio, along with our whole suite of plugins, effects, and transitions.

This is a web preview of the real styles. In the panel, the Style Library plays each one on your own captions, over your own frame.
Three steps and you are up and running with Captions, right inside your editor today. Free to start.

Getting the words on screen is the easy part. Making them look like your brand means restyling, repositioning, and re-checking, one caption at a time.
The read-along look, where each word lights up as it is spoken, is hundreds of tiny keyframes if you build it yourself. Then the edit changes.
Export the video, upload it, style it in a browser, download a file with the captions burned in. Change one word and you do the whole trip again.
Captions listens to your sequence with Whisper, right on your computer. Nothing is uploaded, there are no per-minute fees, and the engine is shared with the other Filmit tools, so it is a one-time download.
Already made a caption track in Premiere Pro? Captions reads it and keeps your line breaks if you want. You can also paste a script or import an .srt file.
From a quiet fade and a subtitle plate to read-along, boxed words, typewriter, and loud creator styles. Browse them in the Style Library and star the ones you reach for.
Precise word timing lines each word up with the voice, so the highlight arrives when the word is said. Want it a touch earlier? Nudge Word timing by ear with the sound playing.
The preview plays the real look on your own captions, over the frame under your playhead, with safe margins, a snapping grid, and a zoom for judging an outline or a shadow.
One, two, or three lines. Nine positions, or drag the captions where you want them. A Vertical 9:16 frame keeps them inside the centre column of a wide shot.
In Premiere Pro every caption is a Motion Graphics clip you adjust in the Properties panel. In After Effects one Caption Controls layer restyles every caption at once.
Update all captions applies a new style or layout to the captions already on your timeline. Remove captions takes every one of them off again.
One panel for both apps, on Mac and Windows, matched to each app's look. It needs Premiere Pro 2025 or After Effects 2025, or newer.
Transcribe listens to your sequence on your own machine and times every word. Or start from what you already have: the caption track on your Premiere Pro sequence, a pasted script, or an .srt file.
Choose how many lines a caption may use, where it sits, and how big the type is, then pick a style. The preview plays it on your own words, and Customize is there when a style is nearly right.
Create places one animated caption clip per caption on the first free track above your edit, so nothing you cut is touched. In After Effects you get a Captions comp. Change the look later and Update all captions restyles them in place.
When you read captions from Premiere Pro, the panel listens to the sequence. If the captions are out of step with the sound, it moves every caption, and every word, to where it is spoken.
Your text stays exactly as you wrote it. The result is remembered for that sequence, and one link under the caption source switches back to the caption track's own timing.
No retyping, no nudging captions down the timeline one at a time.
Review lists the words the transcription was unsure about, and names spelled more than one way. Type the right spelling and fix it across this sequence, or across every sequence on your Bulk list.
Bulk puts one layout and one style on many sequences in Premiere Pro, or comps in After Effects, one after another. Transcribe them all first, check the words in Review, then create.
Review and Bulk run entirely on your machine. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Bulk and Review come with Filmit Studio. Compared with Premiere Pro 26.3 and the usual workflow of browser-based caption apps. Features vary by app and plan.
Click any caption on the timeline and change its text, font, colours, or animation in the Properties panel. Move it, trim it, or delete it like any other clip. The captions sit on their own track, so your edit underneath is never touched.
Every caption is a layer in a Captions comp, and one Caption Controls layer restyles them all at once. From there it is ordinary After Effects: retime a caption, add effects, or animate on top.
Two quiet line styles, two word-by-word styles, and one loud one for shorts.
Change a free style to match your brand, and save one style of your own.
Create, update, and remove captions as often as you like.
A Filmit Studio subscription adds the full library of 111 styles, the rest of Customize, more saved styles, Review, and Bulk. It unlocks as soon as your licence is active.

Quiet subtitle plates and serif fades that sit under the picture without shouting over it.
A whole series captioned in one look with Bulk, so lesson twelve matches lesson one.

Already captioned in Premiere Pro? Keep the text and line breaks you approved, and turn them into animated captions.

Click Transcribe, or From Premiere to use the caption track that is already there.
Set the lines, position, and size, then choose a style and watch it play on your own words.
One click places an editable caption per line on a free track. Restyle them any time with Update all captions.
No. Captions transcribes with Whisper on your own machine, so nothing is uploaded and there are no per-minute fees. Review and Bulk work the same way. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects, as one panel on Mac and Windows. It needs Premiere Pro 2025 or After Effects 2025, or newer.
Yes. To change all of them, pick a new style or layout in the panel and click Update all captions. To change one, click its clip on the Premiere Pro timeline and edit the text, font, colours or animation in the Properties panel. In After Effects, one Caption Controls layer restyles every caption in the Captions comp.
No. Every caption is its own clip on your timeline, on the first free track above your edit. You can move, trim, retype or delete each one, and Remove captions takes them all off again.
Yes. From Premiere reads the caption track already on your sequence and keeps your line breaks if you choose As captioned. Once the animated captions are on the timeline, hide the native caption track so the text does not show twice.
Yes. That usually means the cut changed after the captions were made. When you read captions from Premiere Pro, the panel listens to the sequence and, if they are out of step, moves every caption and every word to where it is spoken. Your text stays as it is, and one link switches back to the caption track's own timing.
Press Sound under the preview and move Word timing until the highlight lands with the voice, then click Update all captions. Precise word timing, on by default, lines each word up with the audio for you.
Yes. Captions follows the frame of your sequence, and tall frames get larger type automatically. In a wide sequence, the Vertical 9:16 frame keeps captions inside the centre column, ready for a vertical crop.
English works out of the box. Other languages need a multilingual Whisper model, and Settings lists the languages and tells you where the model goes. With one installed, Captions can also translate speech to English.
