The shot exists. Finding it is the job.
Covering a talking-head edit with B-roll is hours of scrubbing bins, remembering footage, and dragging clips one by one. BRoll does the finding and the placing.
🔍

Scrubbing bins for one shot

You know you shot the bottle close-up. Somewhere. Hunting through a bin of clips named A001_C002 to find it breaks your flow, on every single cut.

✓ BRoll watches every clip once and finds shots by meaning
🎤

Talking-head deserts

Minutes of uncovered interview where the speaker mentions the product, the place, the process, and the screen just shows a face. You know it needs coverage. Placing it all by hand takes the rest of the day.

✓ BRoll places clips matched to the dialogue, at your chosen density
🗃️

Footage you forgot you own

The best B-roll in your project is often a clip you shot months ago and never logged. If you can't remember it, you can't cut with it.

✓ Your whole analyzed library becomes searchable by what's in it
An assistant editor for your footage.
BRoll isn't a stock library or a template pack. It works with the footage you already own, inside Adobe Premiere Pro, and hands you real, editable clips on your own timeline.
💬

Dialogue-matched placement

Phrase match places a clip per sentence for a natural documentary rhythm. Word match can switch clips mid-sentence on the exact word, so "we grow it, press it, and bottle it" gets three shots, right on the beats.

🎛️

Coverage control

Choose how much of your sequence gets covered: Light places only the strongest matches, Medium and Heavy fill in more, and Wall-to-wall keeps a fresh clip on screen at least every five seconds or so.

Review everything it did

One card per placement: the quote, the chosen frame, and why. Jump moves your playhead straight to it, and a re-roll button swaps in the next-best clip right on the timeline.

🔎

Search footage by meaning

Type "someone celebrating" and get the shot, no tags needed. Browse your whole analyzed library with thumbnails, in list or grid view, with tag suggestions from your own footage, favorites, and drag-to-timeline.

🏷️

AI names every clip

"A001_C002.mxf" becomes "A001_A002_Spirit Bottle Rotating Close-up". Camera shot ids stay in the name, so sorting and source tie-back survive. Duplicate detection files copies with one click, and the whole inventory exports as a spreadsheet.

🎥

Camera RAW support

RED (.R3D) and Blackmagic RAW analyze through Premiere itself when ffmpeg can't decode them. If you can edit it, BRoll can analyze it. One-time per clip, cached forever, and attached proxies are used automatically.

🔑

Free loop, no API key

Export for Claude or ChatGPT copies a complete prompt. Paste the AI's JSON reply back via Import and BRoll places everything. With a key, synced from Filmit Studio, it's one click.

📦

Tidy, reversible, safe

Every placement is filed into a "B-Roll Inserts" bin, never loose in your project. Your media files are never modified. And one undo removes an entire run, not one clip at a time.

🔒

Local first, private by default

Clip analysis, transcription, and search all run on your machine. Your footage never uploads. Only tiny keyframe thumbnails are sent when cloud naming is enabled, never media files. Anamorphic footage is handled at its true aspect, no stretched frames.

Bring your own AI. Or none at all.
BRoll never forces you to pay another company for AI. Pick the path that fits your workflow, your privacy needs, and your budget.
💬
Free · no API key

Export, paste, import

Export for Claude/ChatGPT copies a complete, ready-to-paste prompt built from your transcript and your analyzed library. Drop it into free ChatGPT or Claude, paste the JSON reply back via Import, and BRoll places everything. No key, no setup, no cost.

Either way, your analysis, transcription, and search always run locally. Your video and audio never leave your computer.

Watch. Listen. Place.
Three stages take BRoll from a pile of unlogged footage to a timeline covered in the right shots.
Stage 1 · Watch

It watches every clip, so you don't have to.

Point BRoll at your bins. Shot detection splits each clip into its real shots, and a vision model looks at every one of them, locally, so BRoll knows what you actually have on the shelf.

  • Runs on your machine, footage never uploads
  • RED and Blackmagic RAW analyze through Premiere itself
  • Attached proxies are used automatically
  • One-time per clip, cached forever
  • Anamorphic footage at its true aspect, no stretched frames
Clip Analysis 0/6 analyzed
Stage 2 · Listen

It listens to your sequence.

Local Whisper transcribes the dialogue on your timeline, so BRoll knows what is being said, and exactly when. That transcript is what your footage gets matched against, sentence by sentence or word by word.

  • Local Whisper transcription, nothing uploaded
  • Timecoded to the frame, so placements land on the beat
  • Phrase match for sentences, Word match for exact words
  • Coverage gaps flagged: moments you talk about but own no footage for

Stage 3 · Place

Real clips on your real timeline.

BRoll places video-only clips above your dialogue, matched to what is being said, at the coverage level you chose. They're ordinary, editable Premiere clips: trim them, slip them, move them, or re-roll any of them from the Review tab.

  • Video-only placements, your dialogue audio is untouched
  • Every clip filed into a "B-Roll Inserts" bin, never loose
  • Your media files are never modified
  • One undo removes the entire run

Music mode: cut to the song.
Some films have no transcript at all. Wedding highlights, event aftermovies, music videos. Music mode cuts them to the track instead.
Beat-mapped · Gapless

It hears the beats. And the build.

BRoll maps your song locally: the beats, the energy, the sections. Then it cuts B-roll to it, gapless, clip after clip, for the length of the track, with pacing that tightens as the music's energy rises.

  • Beat mapping runs locally, like everything else
  • Gapless cutting for the full length of the song
  • Pacing tightens when the energy rises
  • Optional shot-order chronology: the film follows the real day, ceremony before reception, using camera timestamps
  • Built for and tested on real RED wedding projects
Wedding Real estate Sports Travel + more
Every placement, explained.
BRoll shows its work. The Review tab is one card per placement, so you approve the edit like an editor, not a spectator.

Review, jump, re-roll.

Each card shows the quote it matched, the frame it chose, and why it chose it. Jump moves your playhead straight to the placement so you can watch it in context.

Don't love a pick? The re-roll button swaps in the next-best clip right on the timeline, no digging, no dragging. And when you talk about something you own no footage for, BRoll calls it out as a coverage gap instead of forcing a bad match.

It's the conversation you'd have with an assistant editor: here's what I did, here's why, want something else?

Built for anything with footage.
Dialogue-driven or cut to music: if your bins have footage, BRoll puts it on the timeline.

BRoll is built for Adobe Premiere Pro, on Mac and Windows. It reads the bins and sequences straight from your open project and places its clips right back onto your timeline.

No. Placements are real, editable, video-only clips, filed into a "B-Roll Inserts" bin rather than scattered loose through your project. Your media files are never modified, and one undo removes an entire run.

Yes. When ffmpeg can't decode a format, RED (.R3D) and Blackmagic RAW clips analyze through Premiere itself. If you can edit it, BRoll can analyze it. Analysis is one-time per clip and cached forever, and attached proxies are used automatically.

Handled correctly. BRoll analyzes and displays anamorphic clips at their true aspect ratio, so you're matching against the image you'll actually see, not a stretched frame.

BRoll tells you instead of guessing. The Review tab calls out coverage gaps, moments you talk about but own no footage for, so you know exactly what to shoot, license, or cut around.

Use Music mode. BRoll maps your song locally, the beats, the energy, the sections, and cuts your footage to it, gapless, for the length of the track. Pacing tightens as the music builds, film-type presets cover weddings, real estate, sports, travel and more, and optional shot-order chronology keeps the film following the real day using camera timestamps.
