Cold shadows, sickly greens, horror-grade desaturation.
The Look
Xenomorph Dread is the sci-fi horror grade. Cold shadows pushed toward sickly green, midtones desaturated almost to monochrome, and the kind of contrast that turns industrial interiors into claustrophobic traps. The pack is built around the visual signature of confined-space horror: corridor footage, industrial set work, and any project where the environment should feel actively hostile. Strong shadow detail preservation prevents the heavy desaturation from crushing into unreadable darkness.
Inspired by Alien
Alien (1979) defined the visual vocabulary of confined-space sci-fi horror. Ridley Scott and DP Derek Vanlint built the Nostromo's interior as a working industrial environment, then lit it with a cold-fluorescent-and-emergency-amber palette that has rippled through every space horror film since: The Thing, Event Horizon, Pandorum, Life, and most recently Prometheus and Alien: Romulus.
Best For
- Sci-fi horror narrative and short film
- Industrial location work (factories, warehouses, server rooms)
- Horror content with environmental rather than gore-focused dread
- Music videos with claustrophobic or dystopian direction
- Trailer cuts that need atmospheric weight
Color Notes
The green push reads as sickness on skin tones. Use it deliberately. Talking-head footage will fight this grade unless you want the character to look unwell. The cold-shadows-sickly-green variants are the genre defaults; horror-grade-desaturation variants suit broader thriller use.
