Once Upon a Time in Hollywood-Inspired Nostalgic Glow
Inspired by Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Warm highlight rolls, soft shadow lifts, nostalgic glow.
The Look
Sunset Studio is the warm, nostalgic, late-60s Hollywood revival grade. Highlights roll off long and amber, shadows lift slightly so nothing crushes to true black, and saturation sits comfortably above natural without going theatrical. The pack is built for footage that needs to feel like a memory of golden-age California: drive-throughs, neon signs, sun-bleached interiors, evening exteriors. It is the grade you reach for when the project's emotional register is wistful rather than urgent.
Inspired by Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019) was shot on 35mm and 16mm by Robert Richardson with deliberate references to the 1960s Hollywood aesthetic. The grade kept the warmth of period stocks, used long amber highlight rolls instead of digital clipping, and protected the dust and grain that gives the film its lived-in feel. The look has since influenced everything from period commercial work to indie features set in any pre-digital era.
Best For
- Period pieces set in the 50s through 70s
- Nostalgic narrative and memory-sequence storytelling
- Music videos with retro direction
- Travel content with golden-hour priority
- Lookbook and fashion work with vintage references
Color Notes
These LUTs love warm light and hate cool. Daylight exteriors will pull amber; shade and overcast footage will look muddy. Use them where the lighting is already on-genre. The warm-highlight-rolls variants suit exteriors; the soft-shadow-lifts variants handle interiors.
