Deep Space Drift
Deep Space Drift LUTs
Interstellar-Inspired Cosmic Cinema Palette
Inspired by Interstellar
Cosmic blues, star-field contrast, cinematic space grade.
The Look
Deep Space Drift is the modern cosmic-cinema pack. Built around the deep-blue, controlled-saturation vocabulary that Interstellar established for serious space narrative. The grade pulls midtones cool, deepens shadows toward navy rather than pure black, and protects highlights from over-clipping (stars, monitor glow, distant sun). Built for projects where space is awe-inspiring rather than threatening: science narrative, planetary documentary, hard-science-fiction storytelling.
Inspired by Interstellar
Interstellar (2014) was shot by Hoyte van Hoytema on 35mm and 70mm IMAX, with a deliberately restrained palette that contrasted with the brighter, more saturated space cinema of the era (the Star Wars revival, the Marvel cosmic films). The grade kept its blues deep and its highlights protected, giving the film a documentary-feeling realism that has since become the gold standard for serious space cinema.
Best For
- Hard science fiction and space narrative
- Science and astronomy documentary
- Planetarium content and educational space media
- Music videos with cosmic or astronomical themes
- Trailer cuts for serious sci-fi projects
Color Notes
These LUTs do their best work on properly exposed footage with restrained color in-frame. Heavy LED practical light will fight the grade. The cosmic-blues-star-field variants suit space exteriors and night sky work; the cinematic-space variants are flexible enough for studio interior footage.
