The Remix Tool in Premiere Pro automatically stretches or shortens a music track to fit your timeline — rearranging the song internally so it still sounds natural. Find it nested under the Ripple Edit Tool, then drag the edge of your audio clip to the length you need.
Why use the Remix Tool?
It's built for moments when timing music by hand is a pain:
- Making a track end exactly with your footage
- Fitting audio to a timed segment without obvious cuts
- Fast-turnaround work like reels, recaps, and corporate videos
- Avoiding manual trimming, looping, and fading
It analyzes the song's structure and remixes it while preserving rhythm and transitions.
How to use the Remix Tool
Select the Remix Tool
In the toolbar, click and hold the Ripple Edit Tool and choose Remix Tool. (If your tools are hidden, open Window > Tools.)
Drag the clip edge
Select your music track and drag its edge left or right. Premiere remixes the audio to fit the new length, regenerating the waveform as it goes.
Add a fade-out
Right-click the end of the clip and choose Apply Default Transition for a clean fade — great for dance sequences, reveals, or interview endings.
Precision tips
The Remix Tool is fast but not frame-perfect. For a very specific target time it may overshoot or undershoot — nudge the handle and test different endpoints. Some tracks remix better than others depending on their structure, so for a precise musical resolution you may still finish with a manual trim.
