Step-by-step guide

1
Create a Pixabay account

Visit pixabay.com/accounts/register and sign up. It's free. If you already have an account, just sign in.

2
Open the Pixabay API documentation

While signed in, go to pixabay.com/api/docs.

3
Find your API key

Pixabay shows your personal API key directly in the documentation page once you're signed in. Look for a highlighted box near the top labeled "Your API key" — it's a long string of letters and numbers.

Tip: search the page for "key" if you can't spot it immediately.

4
Copy the key

Click to select the key and copy it. There's no separate dashboard or app to create — Pixabay generates one key per account automatically.

5
Paste it into your Filmit account

Go to API Keys in your account settings (or Settings in Filmit Studio) and paste the key into the Pixabay field. Hit Save.

Done!

Your Pixabay key syncs across all your devices. Open Sourcer in After Effects or Premiere Pro and the Pixabay library is ready to search.

Common questions

Is the Pixabay API free?

Yes. The Pixabay API is fully free and the photos and videos are royalty-free under the Pixabay Content License. The free tier allows 100 requests per minute, which is plenty for editing.

Can I use Pixabay content commercially?

Yes — for most uses, including commercial. Pixabay content is free for personal and commercial use without attribution. Some restrictions apply for using identifiable people or branded content; the full license terms are on Pixabay's site.

Why don't I see a separate API dashboard?

Pixabay keeps things simple — there's no separate developer console. Your API key is automatically tied to your Pixabay account and shown directly in the API docs page when you're signed in.

What if my key stops working?

Most often it's a rate limit — wait a minute and try again. If the key itself is invalid, sign back in to Pixabay, copy the latest key from the API docs page, and update it in your Filmit account.
