Anthropic API is pay-as-you-go

The Anthropic API uses usage-based pricing. Claude Haiku (the fastest, cheapest model) costs $0.25 per million input tokens — ideal for quick creative tasks. Typical plugin usage costs pennies per month. You set your own spending limit in your Anthropic console.

Step-by-step guide

Create an Anthropic account

Visit console.anthropic.com and sign up for an account.

Add a payment method

Go to Billing settings and add a credit card. You can set a monthly spending limit to control costs.

Generate an API key

Go to API Keys and click Create Key.

  • Name it anything (e.g., "Filmit Plugins")
  • Copy the key immediately — it won't be shown again

Paste it into your Filmit account

Go to API Keys in your account settings (or Settings in Filmit Studio) and paste the key into the Anthropic / Claude field. Hit Save.

Why Claude?

Claude by Anthropic is one of the most capable AI models available. We chose it for Filmit plugins because:

  • Creative writing — Claude excels at generating titles, descriptions, scripts, and creative copy for video projects.
  • Long context — It can process entire scripts and project briefs to generate contextually relevant content.
  • Safety — Anthropic's focus on AI safety means Claude is less likely to generate problematic content.
  • Cost-effective — Claude Haiku offers excellent quality at very low cost for plugin-level tasks.

Common questions

How much does it cost?

Claude Haiku costs about $0.25 per million input tokens. For typical plugin usage (generating titles, captions, descriptions), this amounts to pennies per month. Set a spending cap in your Anthropic console.

Is it the same as a Claude Pro subscription?

No. The API key and Claude Pro (claude.ai subscription) are separate products. You need an API key from console.anthropic.com, not a Claude Pro subscription.

Can I use OpenAI instead?

Some plugins (like TextPilot) use OpenAI, while upcoming plugins will use Anthropic. Each plugin specifies which API key it needs in the settings.
